Abstract
Purpose: The BTA stat is a rapid, non-invasive, qualitative urine test that detects bladder tumor associated antigen in urine. The sensitivity of this test is superior to that of urine cytology in detecting tumors of the urinary bladder. We compared the sensitivity and specificity of BTA stat test with voided urine and bladder washing urine cytology to execute more accurate and less invasive screening test.

Materials and Methods: Thirty one patients in follow up and twenty one patients who were diagnosed bladder tumor at first were studied. The bladder washing urine were defined as the urine that were drained after catheterization and bladder washing with normal saline.

Results: The overall sensitivity and specificity of the bladder washing urine, voided urine and cytology are 27.7%, 44.4%, 22.2% and 96.2%, 96.2%, 100%, respectively.

Conclusions: The sensitivity of BTA stat with voided urine is superior to those of BTA stat with bladder washing urine and urine cytology. The high sensitivity of BTA stat with voided urine makes it a valuable tool to use in conjunction with standard cystoscopic examination to diagnose and follow up. But to replace the cystoscopic examination and urine cytology, we have to study much more cases with BTA stat test.
